Warren James CB CBE DL

Mentor / Consultant

Warren joined Cheadle Hulme School executive in July 2021, following a long career in the Royal Air Force. A helicopter pilot and flying instructor in his early service, he has operated all over the world, retiring as an Air Vice-Marshal in January 2021.

He interspersed flying with senior leadership functions including leading the UK’s helicopter instructor school, a Search & Rescue squadron, Airspace Management and Flight Operations specialisations and No 22 Group as the Air Officer Commanding.

He has been responsible and accountable for: The UK Military Flying Training System; the Defence College of Technical Training; International Defence Training; the Tedder Leadership Academy and Robson Resilience Academy; the UK RAF Air Cadet organisation and The Red Arrows.

He is also a Chartered Manager since 2009, a board advisor to the People Director Partnership, an Honorary Companion of Lincoln College, a former Honorary of the Worshipful Company of Educators and was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of the County of Shropshire.

He has lectured and consulted on leadership, resilience, strategy and inclusion and as COO, he is Cheadle Hulme School’s Professional Services lead.  Within his first year he introduced efficiency measures to avoid costs in excess of £2m and to commence a route to full carbon offsetting and power independence for the site.
